Über Brum Interview

We’ve been lucky enough to speak to Über Brum and find out a bit about the man behind the lense…….

What does fashion mean to you?
I think fashion is an expression of a person through their clothing, it’s showing your influences and your personality through what you wear. With fashion designers I see it as their art form, they have something they want to express and they have the skills to make clothes so that is how they do it.

What do you look for when selecting someone with style?
I look for someone that stands out, someone who has made an effort with their outfit and someone who has a strong sense of personal style. I try not to be too swayed by my own tastes but I think that it’s inevitable.

How would you describe your style?
Smart & Thin.
This winter I am goth.

Where do you take your photos?
I seem to take most of my pictures when I’m out on the nights in Birmingham. People tend to dress up a bit more for nights out but I like to go out in the days when I can too. I like taking pictures against ugly urban backgrounds because I think that reflects Birmingham.

What do you do when you’re not papping people?
I have a part time job in a cinema but I also have other photographic ventures so I can make money.

What does the future hold for Über Brum?
Eventually I’d like an Über Brum book; I’d like to have a physical document of the street style in Birmingham for the people of the future to look at. In the mean time though I’ll settle for more magazines and more beautiful people.
